The InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown

The InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown stands as a striking symbol of the city's urban renaissance, offering sophisticated luxury in a gleaming 73-story tower that dominates the downtown skyline. This relatively new property delivers on both style and substance, though at premium prices that reflect its upscale positioning.

Location and Views

Situated in the heart of downtown's financial district, the hotel provides excellent access to major attractions like Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum, and LA Live entertainment complex. The real showstopper, however, is the breathtaking views—rooms on higher floors offer panoramic vistas stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the San Gabriel Mountains, particularly spectacular at sunset when the city lights begin to twinkle.

Rooms and Amenities

The accommodations feel genuinely luxurious with floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms, and contemporary furnishings that strike the right balance between comfort and sophistication. Technology integration is seamless, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. The hotel's crown jewel is the 73rd-floor pool deck and bar, La Boucherie, which provides an unforgettable outdoor experience high above the city.

The spa and fitness facilities are genuinely world-class, complemented by an impressive array of dining venues that cater to every mood. The elegant Dekkadance restaurant showcases sophisticated cuisine, while the welcoming Copper Lounge provides the perfect setting for that essential post-arrival ritual—like savoring a expertly crafted Cosmopolitan martini after check-in, when you can finally exhale and feel your vacation truly begin.

For solo travelers, the Club Lounge becomes an invaluable sanctuary that transforms the entire hotel experience. This exclusive space offers far more than typical club amenities—mornings start with an exceptional breakfast spread, while afternoons bring a full premium bar service accompanied by an impressive selection of gourmet canapés that could easily substitute for dinner. The lounge creates a natural environment for meeting fellow travelers or simply enjoying quality time with a good book and perfectly prepared cocktails.

The rooftop experiences represent the hotel's true masterpiece—these elevated outdoor spaces offer something genuinely rare in the hotel world. Standing 73 floors above Los Angeles with the city sprawling endlessly below creates moments that feel almost surreal, whether you're swimming in the sky-high pool or enjoying drinks as the sun sets over the Pacific. These rooftop amenities alone justify the stay for many guests, providing experiences that few hotels anywhere can match.

The combination of thoughtful solo traveler amenities, exceptional dining, and those unforgettable rooftop moments creates a stay that feels both luxurious and personally meaningful.

Service and Experience

Service generally lives up to InterContinental's reputation, with attentive staff who handle requests professionally. The concierge team demonstrates good local knowledge and can arrange everything from restaurant reservations to transportation. Check-in and check-out processes are typically smooth, though the hotel's popularity can create occasional delays during peak periods. I did have some issues at check in, but the management was quick to tackle the problems and made up for it and checked in with me periodically.

Value Considerations

This is definitely a splurge property where you're paying for the location, views, and luxury amenities. While expensive, the hotel delivers a genuinely premium experience that feels worth the investment for special occasions or when you want to experience LA from a unique vantage point.
