Kimpton Kitzroy London, England
I have been to London almost every other year for 20 years now. As a history enthusiast this historical, yet model city comes alive in both day and night times. After spending years staying at various hotels, some good and some really bad, I landed at my forever home with the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
The Fitzroy London Hotel represents Kimpton's successful debut in the UK capital, bringing their signature boutique style to the heart of Fitzrovia. This thoughtfully designed property strikes an impressive balance between contemporary American hospitality and quintessential London charm.
Location & Design Perfectly positioned near Oxford Street and the British Museum, the Fitzroy occupies a beautifully restored Victorian building. The interior design cleverly honors the building's heritage while incorporating Kimpton's signature bold colors and eclectic artwork. The lobby's dramatic navy and gold palette immediately sets an elegant yet approachable tone. The small brass dragon, named, Lucky George, is one of two statues commissions by Charles Fitzroy Doll. The other was on the RMS Titanic.
Accommodations & Amenities Rooms blend classic British elements with modern comfort—think rich fabrics, brass fixtures, and thoughtful touches like locally sourced amenities. The fitness center and Burrow Bar & Kitchen showcase Kimpton's attention to lifestyle details, while the pet-friendly policy remains refreshingly welcoming.
Service Excellence Staff deliver the warm, personalized service Kimpton is known for, with genuine local knowledge that enhances the London experience. The evening wine hour in the lobby creates a lovely social atmosphere.
Minor Notes Room sizes reflect London standards rather than American expectations, and premium pricing matches the prime location.
Verdict The Fitzroy successfully translates Kimpton's distinctive hospitality philosophy to London, creating a sophisticated base for exploring the city that feels both internationally polished and authentically British.
